The Master Gardener Program is a national program of trained volunteers who work in partnership with their county Cooperative Extension office to extend information throughout the community. The first Master Gardener program was started in Washington State in 1972. Forty-six states now have Master Gardener programs with over 15,000 people participating nationwide. More than 900 of these Master Gardeners are from New York State.

Here in Saratoga County we are extremely proud of our 100+ active Master Gardeners. Master Gardeners play an integral part in our consumer horticulture program. They are involved in a wide range of activities such as testing soil, answering gardening questions, public speaking, writing articles, manning a booth at the local farmers’ markets and at our county fair.
