Writing a Business Plan for the Small Livestock Farmer - with Bill Higgins, Ag Economic Development Director, Washington & Saratoga Counties

This presentation will review the steps for development of a business plan.  The importance of writing a strong business plan will be stressed for commercial ventures, no matter the size of the business.  The presentation will explain the parts of a business plan and provide contact information to assist in review and rewrite of an original plan.  Information will be presented regarding the best methods of financing a start-up agricultural business.

Financial Help for Farming - with Steve Ropitsky, USDA Saratoga County Farm Service Agency

Steve will discuss how the Farm Service Agency can help support the small livestock producer's financial needs.

Scrapie Eradication Program - with Anna Moore, USDA Animal & Plant Health Inspection Service, Veterinary Services

The current status of the Scrapie Eradication Program will be discussed.  Sheep and goat producers will not want to miss learning about this voluntary program.  Interstate movement program will also be discussed.

Direct Marketing Your Livestock - with Paula Schafer, Cornell Cooperative Extension Educator, Saratoga County

Paula recently completed her thesis, "A Producer's Key to Successful Marketing:  Understanding What Consumers Want from Animal Food Products Purchased Directly from the Farm."  Learn what the research found and a workable marketing action plan for all livestock farmers to utilize.  An open discussion will give an opportunity for producers to discuss local needs in regards to marketing, networking, processing, and much more.  From this discussion, needs of local producers will be identified so that a plan to address those needs can be conceptualized.
